Re: G510 on Gentoo: WORKING! 1 year ago #645

Well, I tried a whole lot of patches - but found that those on this pages are really the best packages. And, they are already patches. So no, I don't use any patches in my ebuilds at all

If the owner of the overlay is reading, I would be glad to get in touch with you, so this wonderful piece of hardware gets better support in Gentoo. I also have already submitted an update for libg15 to the official bug tracker. I will also attach my updated ebuilds. Feel free to use and spread them!

Hey mate. I am the maintainer of the gentoo overlay, though my work on it is ... spurious

I am currently trying to set up gnome15-0.8.3 to work. Unfortunately it shuts down as soon as it starts - seems it has something to do with the gtk2-gtk3 pygobject transition.

Anyway... I'll push the current state of the overlay to github on a separate branch - perhaps some other guy's snaky eyes can spot the python problem.

Well, let's try to sort this out.

* Which ebuild did you use? Mine, or your own?

* Did you update all the dependencies? (gnome15-core, gnome15-plugins, ...)

* What exactly are you trying to start? The desktop service? Or the config utility? or...?

* Could you post some output? Maybe I can be of help

As of my system, I am using KDE 4.8.3, and LXDE. I have GTK2 and 3 installed, and I am trying to use gtk3 over gtk2 wherever possible.

Are you using Python 2 or 3? That could a another problem on it's own.

Did you try running python-updater already? It fixes a whole lot of problems.

I am using python2.7. I have minimal gtk packages installed, since I only have KDE on the system. I've ran python-updater several times for various other reasons. All is up-to-date.

I am using my own ebuilds from github at github.com/CMoH/gnome15-overlay See branch gnome15-0.8.3.

Where can I find yours?

I've attached a console dump of what's happening when trying to start g15-desktop-service.

Hi,

You can find my ebuilds at the first post of this thread, but here is the direct link again:

www.gnome15.org/media/kunena/attachments/628/ebuilds-0.8.3.tgz

Unfortunately I cannot read anything out of the log. But I assume something really important is missing, and I am guessing it must be ebuild-related somehow.

As of my ebuilds, they are based on yours, so the next step I'll try will be to diff them. Maybe the problem can be solved that way

Edit: nope. your ebuilds seem to be more advanced than mine, so the problem shouldn't be there

Edit2: I am attaching a debug log just as yours is. Maybe it can be of help.

Edit3: Have a look at pyuinput, it seems it fails to initialize. (ebuild: python-uinput from your overlay)

Re: G510 on Gentoo: WORKING! 1 year ago #661

Thanks! It really helps having a debug log of the service starting up successfully.

It might also be that the more so-called "advanced" ebuilds are bringing in some feature that actually crashes, bringing the whole service down.

About that - I am unsure if you are a git afficionado, but perhaps we can collaborate via github on a better experience for gentooers with gnome15. I only own a G19 keyboard, so most of what I did for the other models is based on guesswork.

This leads me to another idea: could you try and switch temporarily to my overlay? If they work for you, then it's something either related to G19 vs G15, or something bad on my system. If they don't then I know I have to check out the ebuilds.
